I am cautiously optimistic that things are turning around. As I write this Max is tucked into our bed with Darren, very happy to be home. Today we basically just played the waiting game. Dr. Welle came in this morning and gave him a once over. He told the nurses to unhook all of his monitors and IV and see how he does for the day. We made him take a bath, after an 8 day hiatus from cleanliness, and tried to get him up out of bed more, as we knew we were being tested. He took a long nap, but otherwise did well today. When Dr. Welle came in late in the afternoon to look him over again, he had him throw a football to him a few times and declared that although we could stay another night, they wouldn't hook him back up, and that a kid who can throw a spiral like that didn't need to be there. I was hoping he would give me some sort of guarantee that we are out of the woods for another seizure, but he said he would have never predicted the one he had. He took more blood today to test for West Nile again and Lymes disease, which I think would just point to the cause of the meningitis.
We were all happy to get home and into our own beds. Max spent the evening on the couch and was a different kid outside of that hospital setting. He had so much anxiety about being there, but at home he was much more mobile that he has been at the hospital. I am a little nervous about him having another seizure, but trying really hard to not let it consume me. Dr. Welle sent us home with Diastat, but when Darren went to fill the prescription he was told we wouldn't have it til tomorrow morning, so I'm a little on edge tonight. Doctors orders were to rest, see our doctor in a day, and stay out of school for the rest of the week. Even when he returns, hopefully next week, he won't be able to participate in phy ed or recess for a while. We aren't sure when he'll be able to lace up his hockey skates again, but for sure not for a few weeks. He really wants to go back to school and had so much fun reading the cards his classmates made him. He has been showered with gifts and is definitely eating that up:) Hoping for another uneventful night........
